The Echademy

Where Hip Hop Academics Come To Play

Professor Lyrical has been releasing well-received records since the late 1990s. His group X-Caliber's single, "Butta Messenga," remains one of the heaviest played records in New England college mix-show radio history. In the early to mid-2000s, he released several 12 inch singles with his group Invasion while also doubling as a promoter for many Boston area clubs, shows and concerts. By 2005, he released his acclaimed solo album iNFiNiTi, with the lead single, "The Focuz Is Back," reaching as high as #2 on the national college mixshow radio charts in 2006 (and with a flip side that charted as high as #8 and featured vocals by, Echademy member, Dr. Nooshin "eNVy" Valizadeh.

While working on his masters of mathematics, and teaching as an adjunct professor at several Boston area institutions, he recorded The College Project with 25 of his own students involved in the project. The album was released in 2009, with an accompanying release party featuring nearly all of his students performing for the first time. In 2013, he released Put Em All To Shame (recorded at Echo with all tracks engineered by Robie Rowland) entirely produced by DJ Shame. This first-of-its-kind album (or "albook") is packaged with a book by the similar name of Put Em All To Shame (The Curriculum)

Dr. Professor Lyrical is an Associate Professor (Mathematics) at the University of the District of Columbia and serves as the Director of Faculty Development for UDC-CC. Lyrical was also an assistant teaching professor at Northeastern University.  He has taught approximately 150 classes across 10 different Boston area institutions before teaching in DC. He holds a bachelors in business, a masters in Mathematics, and a doctorate in Education. He has promoted scores of shows in Massachusetts and also co-founded the Mass Industry Committee which planned and produced the historic MIC Awards in 2006 and 2007. The Professor regularly performs and speaks at schools, primarily colleges and universities, and has been a keynote speaker several times for the Boston Celtics, and many other corporations and professional organizations; his Tedx Talk on opening a Hip Hop university is a forerunner to the central idea behind The Echademy.
